John’s Car

The replacement car for the Packard Clipper Deluxe was a 1958 Daimler Conquest Century. This had a 100 h.p. six cylinder OHV engine with twin SU carbs coupled through a fluid flywheel to a Wilson pre-selector gearbox which was fun to drive. The car had walnut dash, leather seats and an automatic chassis lubrication system which used heat from the exhaust to expand oil and force it through small pipes to all the suspension joints. When the exhaust cooled fresh oil was sucked into the expansion chamber. It had laminated torsion bar independent front suspension and hydraulic front with mechanical rear brakes.
